Importance of Door Hold Button for Your Elevators

There are several buttons in the elevator that we often see. There is a “Close” button to close the cabin door (which actually doesn’t work according to some myths circulating). There is also an “Open” button to open the door, or hold the cabin door open. It’s just that, to keep the door open, the “Open” button must be kept pressed. Another way is to press the call button on the Landing Operation Panel (LOP).

However, for Bed Elevators or Freight Elevators, the “Open” button on the COP or the call button on the LOP is not enough. That’s why the “Door Hold” button was added. With this button, the user only needs to press it once and the door will open for 3-5 minutes according to the settings during installation.

The “Door Hold” button usually has the words “HOLD” or “DH” on the face of the button, very clearly distinguishable from the “Open” or “Close” button. Some put “DOOR HOLD” or “EXTEND OPEN” on the face of the button. There are also some elevator manufacturers that do not use a button, but instead use a lock mechanism to hold the door open.

Thus, to hold the cabin door open, there is no need for a special person to have to press the “Open” button or the LOP call button continuously. Passengers can concentrate on working safely in and out of the cabin to unload and load items or hospital beds. The speed and safety of work is better because it is not disturbed by the cabin door which opens and closes itself.

Passengers who have health problems that can’t walk fast or have to use a wheelchair alone can also take advantage of this “Door Hold” button to exit safely without worrying about being pinched by the cabin door that suddenly closes.

Therefore, although the “Door Hold” button is generally only used on Bed Elevators or Freight Elevators, it is possible that it can be added to a regular Homelift or Passenger Lift. Does your elevator need a “Hold Button” button? Please consult with our experts!
