The Importance of Clear House Numbers

Have you ever searched for a house in a complex, but almost all the houses there didn’t have their house number shown? Did you have trouble finding the house you were looking for?

Or have you ever seen one street with two street names? Some houses there use the street name “Mangga VII”, but some use the street name “Gunung Agung Blok G”. Not to mention that the same house can have two house numbers, for example number “10” and “44”.

Along with the development of housing and the expansion of our cities, we often encounter this kind of phenomenon. Some streets have their names changed, or synchronized to the names of the housing complexes. This change often makes the division of roads that used to use “Alley Number” turn into “Blocks”. Even the house numbering can change. It may previously the number “44” but now it changed to the number “10”.

As a local, you may not be confused anymore by these kinds of changes. But if you are an outsider who wants to visit, of course it will be difficult to find the intended house.

Even more fatal, if due to this kind of unclear house number and address, an emergency fails to be handled in time!

For example, firefighters or ambulances may run out of time because they have to find an unclear house number. The police could have entered the wrong house to look for fugitives.

Therefore, it is very useful if you put the appropriate house number and street identity in front of your house. Not only is it useful for guests in their search for your home, but it is also very useful for helping your neighbors in times of emergency!

Progenio suggests good house number design criteria for clarity of your home address:

  • The writing is large enough, it can be seen from across the street in front of your house.
  • Even better if it can be seen from the left and right side of your house.
  • The font should be frill free, not in cursive.
  • If the place allows, also include the name of the Gang or Block.
  • If it is still possible, add a Street Name, or at least the initials of the street name.
  • Use a striking color contrast to distinguish the writing and background of your House Number.
  • To make sure your house number is easily visible at night, use lighting that highlights your house number, or that comes from inside your house number.
